The SD90 defines what most clients now imagine when they say 'a Mediterranean charter yacht': a 27-metre Sanlorenzo semi-displacement, six guests in three or four cabins, five to six crew, and an interior that reads as coastal Italian villa rather than yacht.
The Sanlorenzo SD (Semi-Displacement) series has been in production since the mid-2000s and remains the yard's most enduring hull line. The SD90 sits at 27.30 m LOA, cruises at 12 knots and reaches 16 knots at top end, and is by design a long-range coastal yacht rather than a fast planing platform — you'll do Portofino to Amalfi overnight without noticing.
The layout is conventional but exceptionally well done: main-deck master, three or four lower-deck guest cabins, main-deck salon with sea-view dining, huge foredeck lounging area with sun pads, and a beach-club-style stern with fold-down platforms that turn the yacht into a swim base in three minutes.
For a crewed week for six guests, the SD90 is the benchmark against which we compare every alternative — most of them fall short in one of range, seakindliness, or that particular Italian interior sensibility.

We reach for the SD90 first when six guests want the archetypal Mediterranean crewed week — Portofino, Capri, Amalfi, Costa Smeralda — and the yacht itself is meant to feel like part of the destination rather than a way to get to it. The Italian interior aesthetic and the semi-displacement seakindliness are things a client either wants or doesn't; when they want them, nothing else quite substitutes.
For groups of eight, or those wanting a slower beach-club rhythm with water toys off the stern all day, we send a Sunreef 60 instead — the volume-per-guest is meaningfully higher. For clients who prioritise raw speed and long open-water range over interior aesthetic, we look at planing motoryachts of similar size that will do 25 knots at cruise but feel less like a villa.
How it compares
The Sunreef 60 is a luxury sailing catamaran with more volume per guest and a totally different aesthetic. Choose it if you want beach-club living. Choose the SD90 if you want a proper motor yacht.

- What does a week actually cost, all-in?
- Total cost is the base charter fee plus APA (fuel, dockage, food, wine, sea toys) at roughly 25–30% of the base, plus crew tips at ~10% of base. Actual weekly rate depends heavily on year of build, layout and season — we send a full costed proposal on request rather than a published rate.
- Is it the same as a Sanlorenzo SL, SP, or SX?
- No. SD (Semi-Displacement) is the classic long-range coastal hull line. SL and SP are planing (faster, less range). SX is a crossover open-plan configuration. SD is the choice for pure comfort at 12-knot cruise.
- How many guests?
- Six guests sleeping in three cabins is standard. Some hulls have a fourth cabin for eight, but layouts are yacht-specific — ask us which specific SD90 has the layout you need.
- Where is the boat based?
- Most SD90s summer between Portofino and Amalfi, or in Sardinia/Corsica. Winter refits typically happen in La Spezia or Viareggio. We can arrange delivery to your preferred embarkation port.
- Can I meet the crew before booking?
- Yes — for any charter of this size we arrange a captain call before contract signature. Chemistry matters, and any captain worth working with expects the call.
