Charter Guide

Best Time to Sail by Destination

Choosing when to sail is almost as important as choosing where. The same coastline can feel like a private paradise in June and an overcrowded marathon in August.

Below is an honest, month-by-month overview of every destination we charter — wind, water temperature, crowds and pricing — so you can plan around the weather rather than fight it.

Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza & Formentera)

Season
May – October
Peak
Mid-July to late August
Shoulder (best value)
May, June, September, early October
Wind
Light to moderate (8–20 knots), mostly thermal sea breezes in summer afternoons
Water temperature
20°C in May, 26–27°C in August, 23°C in October

June and September are the sweet spot — warm sea, calm winds, fewer crowds and lower prices than August. Avoid the first three weeks of August if you dislike busy anchorages and high marina fees.

Sardinia & Corsica

Season
May – October
Peak
August
Shoulder (best value)
June, July, September
Wind
Variable. Mistral can blow 25–35 knots from the northwest, mainly in spring and autumn
Water temperature
21°C in June, 25–26°C in August, 22°C in October

The Costa Smeralda peaks in August with very high marina rates. June and September give the same crystal water with half the crowds. The Bonifacio Strait between Sardinia and Corsica can accelerate wind significantly and should be respected even during the summer months.

Amalfi Coast & Sicily / Aeolian Islands

Season
May – October
Peak
July – August
Shoulder (best value)
May, June, September
Wind
Generally light (5–12 knots). Aeolian Islands can see stronger Tyrrhenian winds

July – August
Shoulder (best value)
May, June, September, October
Wind
Light to moderate. Northwest Mistral in spring, Sirocco from the south in summer
Water temperature

June and September are ideal — pleasant Maestral wind, warm sea, accessible berths in Hvar, Vis and Korčula. August is the busiest and most expensive month. Early October can also be excellent, with warm sea temperatures, quieter marinas and lower charter prices.

Our short answer

For the Mediterranean, the two best months almost everywhere are June and September — warm sea, lighter wind, fewer crowds and noticeably lower prices than July–August.

For tropical destinations, sail the Caribbean and Bahamas December–April, Thailand November–April, and the Seychelles in their calm shoulder months — April, May, October, November.
